Emily S. Brazzel
July 27, 1843-1873 or 1875
Born in Union Co., Ark

Married William G. Hood circa 1866
Emily married William G. Hood (1841-1908) who was the son of Green Hood and Katherine Swint. Their first child, Green Thomas, was born March 14, 1867. Two years later circa 1869 Emaline was born. She was listed in the 1870 census as a one year old and apparently died as a child. A third child, Frederick G., was listed as 2 months old in the 1870 census. Circa 1873 their last child, W.D. “Dock” was born.
Emily’s exact death date is not known, but she was about 31 when she died. After her death William remarried. His marriage was to Margaret “Maggie” Dye December 16, 1875. He brought to this marriage three children ages two, five and eight. At this time their grandfather, Gordon Brazzel, was married to Caroline. So Maggie came to this marriage with a ready-made family. The children she and William had are: Eugenia “Jennie”, George Washington, Mary Ann, John Henry, Eddie Douglas, Cornelia and William. All lived to adulthood except George Washington who died as an infant.
Eddie Douglas (who was a half brother to Emily’s children on his father’s side) married Dora Stephenson and their son, Leonard Hood (who is not kin by blood to the Brazzel’s), married Gordon and Caroline’s great granddaughter, Inez Brazzel. Inez’s daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bailes serves as an officer, board member, and member of the Brazzel Memorial Reunion building committee. Maggie died October 28, 1900 at age 48. William died September 12, 1908 at age 67. Both are buried at St. Rest Cemetery.
